Students are classified by year according to the number of credits and grade points they have earned:
- Freshman: fewer than 24 credits
- Sophomore: at least 24 credits
- Junior: at least 54 credits
- Senior: at least 86 credits
These credits must be in courses that count toward a Letters & Science undergraduate degree.
Every L&S undergraduate student is expected to maintain at least a C average (2.000 grade point average) on all work carried, whether passed or not, in each semester/term or summer session. Failure to earn this minimum grade point average will result in a status of probation, strict probation, or dropped. For more information, see probation & dropped status.
