In order to create learning environments that permit students optimal time to engage in their studies, UW-Madison has established limits on the number of credits students may take in any given term. In Summer Term and winterim, the general rule is that a student may earn one credit per week of instruction in a course, whether through UW-Madison or another institution. Students who have been guided to seek a credit overload should review the rules and review the additional costs of this choice. See HERE for more details.
Because these rules are complex, students are encouraged to consult with their advisors and L&S Academic Deans’ Services to avoid planning a course schedule that will not be approved. For additional information about credit limits, see credit load and ranges.
